   It sounds like an outreach venue for the less than 21 crowd (yes they are mostly musicians} associated with the BW would be in order. Count me in to volunteer.

   More than saddening it is actually tragic. The High Schoolers who I am familiar with are completely passionate about this music. They are musicians and already part of the jazz community. Some are exceeding the levels of college age players as can be seen at Young Artist competitions. They are literally the next generation to many of the performers who are playing the Blue Whale. As an audience, they and their adult entourage might actually make up a majority at certain performances.
   If this is really coming from the City of L.A. then they need to be petitioned. What’s next Catalina’s? The Blue Whale is a serious music room not a bar for drunken excess. The Blue Whale is also a miracle come to town. It is a unique venue. Eye-opening to the range of music going on in our community.
   If this new policy is coming from management, what exactly happened?

   Robert…you make it sound like this is something that the blue whale is just making up.
   Why would you even question whether or not this is coming from the city? I’m sure the blue whale loves a packed house just as much as the rest of us, so I doubt they would just make up a random rule for no reason.

      Actually I’m not trying to make it sound like anything. I’m just wondering. Is it a particular type of liquor license? Are there other categories?
      Was there an improper incident? The Blue Whale is a business and has to do what it has to do. But it is really too bad. I also don’t know of any other jazz club, restaurant serving alcohol, or any similar establishment to have these restrictions. One can buy a drink at places like the Kodak Theater or the Broad or a wedding reception standing next to their five year old.
